The MMSP has had a commitment to first aid that pre-dates VT. EMS(and Nat.l EMS). Today most of the MMSP are Vt EMT - basics. We are fortunate to have several IV certified members, and also a few Paramedics. These higher trained individuals, as well as several of the EMT-B's volunteer, for the local (Stowe, Waterbury, and Morristown) rescue squads. These service associations help the MMSP maintain a high level of proficiency with member first aid skills and assessments. 

Every autumn the MMSP puts on a First Aid refresher. This two day event brings together the patrollers that don't work in EMS (outside of patrolling) with the patrollers that are year-round EMS providers. For the past few years the assistant patrol director, Tim Lambert, has organized the refresher format to great success. The MD's that volunteer to help instruct several skills are particularly effective in reminding the rest of us how critical our actions can be in a true emergency.
